Lightness and Exactitude

Lightness

In music, commercial visual design, and information design I have tried to subtract weight from the results of my labour.

Noise, aggressiveness – like death.

“To cut off Medusa’s head without being turned to stone, Perseus supports himself on the very lightest of thing, the winds and the clouds, and fixes his gaze upon what can be receaved only by indirect vision, an image caught in a mirror.”

3 characteristics: 1) it is to the highest degree light; 2) it is motion; 3) it is a vector of information

“Lightness for me goes with precision and determination, not with vagueness and the haphazard.”

Software is light – giving marching orders to the heavy machines. The web is built of software – this revolution is not of heavy industrial machinery but of weightless bits in a flow of information in the form of electronic bits.

Exactitude

1) a well-defined plan and well-calculated plan for the work in question;
2) an evocation of clear, incisive, memorable visual images;
3) a language as precise as possible both in choice of words and in expression of the subtleties of thought and imagination.

A sense of precision in words and meaning- sharpen the edge of expressiveness.

Every image must have form and meaning.

Represent the tangible as precisely as possible.
